Frances Stark

Artist

Frances Stark is a Los Angeles-based artist and writer and Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Southern California. She has had solo exhibitions at greengrassi, London; CRG, New York; Marc Foxx Gallery and China Art Objects, Los Angeles; Kunstverein Galerie, Munich and Galerie Daniel Buchholz, Cologne and has an upcoming solo exhibition at the Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven, in May 2007. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at the CCAC Institute, San Francisco; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the UCLA Hammer Museum among others. A prolific writer, as well as producing catalogue contributions for artists such as Bas Jan Ader, Ed Ruscha and Sharon Lockhart, she is the author of The Architect and the Housewife (Book Works, 1999) and a book of her collected writings was also published by Book Works in 2003.
