Biography

Haim Steinbach

Haim Steinbach is an artist based in New York and San Diego. He is a Professor of Art at the University of California, San Diego and has been an influential exponent of art based on already existing objects. His installation Display # 5 at Artist’s Space, New York, 1979, consisted of everyday objects borrowed from friends. Other exhibitions include Documenta IX, Kassel, 1992, Venice Biennale, Venice, 1997, and the Biennale de Lyon, Lyon, 2000. Solo exhibitions include the CAPC Musée d’art Contemporain, Bordeaux, 1988, Castello Di Rivoli, Rivoli, Torino, 1995, Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig, Vienna, 1997, Haus der Kunst, Munich, 2000 and The Berkeley University Art Gallery, 2005.
